Daylight Saving Time 2026 and 2027

Two-thirds of the world never touches its clocks. The third that does, does it on different weekends — which is why the gap between London and New York is five hours for most of the year, four for one week in March, and six for one week in autumn.

Australia is not one answer: Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory do not observe DST at all. Neither does most of Mexico, nor Arizona and Hawaii.

Countries with variable dates

Some countries set their dates year by year, usually around Ramadan. Do not plan around these more than a few months ahead.

• Morocco and Western Sahara — permanently on UTC+1, but suspend it for Ramadan and resume afterwards, roughly 11 days earlier each year.
• Egypt — reinstated DST in 2023: last Friday of April to the last Thursday of October.
• Palestine, Lebanon, Syria — dates have shifted at short notice in recent years.

And the EU? The European Commission proposed ending seasonal clock changes in 2018, and Parliament voted for it in 2019. The Council never reached a qualified majority, no timeline has been set, and the proposal has sat unresolved ever since. Europe still changes its clocks.

Do the clocks go forward or back in October?

Back. In the EU and UK, clocks go back one hour at 02:00 local time on 25 October 2026.

Why do the US and Europe change on different dates?

The EU changes on the last Sunday in March and the last Sunday in October. The US uses the second Sunday in March and the first Sunday in November, so for about a week each spring and autumn the usual time difference is one hour off.

Which US states do not change their clocks?

Hawaii and most of Arizona, plus Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, Guam, American Samoa and the Northern Mariana Islands.

Is daylight saving time being abolished?
